ABOUT THE PRACTICE
Giuliana Vastarella is a self-taught embroidery artist whose practice explores the relationship between texture, movement, and intuition. Through thread and free-form stitching, she creates organic compositions that move beyond traditional embroidery, embracing spontaneity, layering, and the expressive possibilities of the handmade.
THE WORKSHOP
This workshop introduces a different approach to embroidery, guided by free forms rather than predefined patterns. Students are invited to let go of expectations and discover their own visual language through an intuitive process of stitching, layering, and building organic shapes directly onto canvas.
Through guided exercises and individual exploration, participants will learn to develop flowing compositions, experiment with different stitches, and discover how simple gestures can come together to create a unique embroidered artwork. No previous experience is necessary. The focus is on process over perfection, trusting intuition, and allowing the work to unfold naturally.
MATERIALS & TAKE-HOME
All materials are included: canvas, thread, needle, and scissors. Participants take home the materials needed to continue working on their piece and complete it at their own pace after the session.
