Artist Residencies

Our Artist Residencies offer the perfect sanctuary to free yourself from the demands of daily life and unleash your artistic brilliance in a supportive and engaging community. Here, visual artists, musicians and writers have ample space, time and freedom to focus on their work and engage in the larger community of San Miguel de Allende, where they can enjoy gallery tours, openings, music venues and a myriad of other cultural, social, and artistic opportunities.

What to Expect

We offer two large live/work studios with ensuite bath and one small live/work space at 22 sq meters (230 sq ft) with a shared bathroom. All three spaces include an easel, work table, and materials storage. Residents have access to a rooftop terrace and fully-equipped shared kitchen.

Residencies range from a minimum of 3 weeks up to 3 months at prices shown below. All residents are responsible for their own transportation, food and materials.
Visiting artists will become part of our community working alongside local artists. You’ll have personalized introductions to prestigious galleries, artists, events and experiences around town. We will also provide you practical insights into essential art supplies, tools and where to find them.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS AND CLASSES such as life drawing, painting, ceramics and others may be offered at our studio and available at the time of your residency. Check our classes for dates and prices for these separate events. Longer term residents (2-3 months) will have the option to display their work at the end of their stay.
Mentorship is available upon request.

Application: Art residency applications are accepted year round. Applicants should expect a follow-up interview request before a final decision is made.

Artist’s CV featuring selected projects, exhibitions, past residencies, education and contact information.
Artist’s Statement (about 200-300 words) describing your current work and its significance and inspiration, as well as your technique and overall vision for your work.
Portfolio of work containing a selection of works (max. 5), in PDF format for writing, JPG or PDF for visual art and MP3 or MP4 format for music, film or performance work. Please include dimensions, materials, production year, location, publication or performance dates.

Airports

There are two main airports with easy access to San Miguel de Allende. Querétaro (QRO) or León/Guanajuato (BJX). BajíoGo offers a straightforward and reliable shuttle service—shared or private—from both locations. Pricing is typically around US $30 one-way per person, with shuttle durations of about 1.5 hours. Transportation

Allende Arts Space is easily accessed by taxis, Uber, or local transit. The local bus route stops directly in front of the building going in and out of Centro. Or you can embrace the local practice of walking.

Weather

San Miguel de Allende enjoys a mild, sunny climate with warm days and cool nights year round. About 75% of its rainfall falls between June and September, while November through April is mostly dry. Fall and winter stay comfortable around 20°C during the day and nights can dip to 10°C so bring a sweater.
